The Catalina’s played at my High school prom at the VFW in 1975 in Lincolnton,N.C. Bo singing Summer Time is Calling Me. I asked him if he remembered it and he said I sure do! And also in downtown Lincolnton at the alive after 5 when he impersonated Ray Charles!
Remembering my first encounter with The Fantastic Shackers which was MANY years ago. They were performing at the Holiday Inn North(which is no longer there). Between the first and second dance set they would put on a floor show(which was not uncommon for the beach groups to do back in the day). What I remember most was Bo dressed up as a little red devil performing as the band did “Devil Goes Down To Georgia”. What a hoot that was and Bo with that “snake of a tongue”! Good Times and Great Memories Bo and The Fantastic Shackers have given us! You will be missed but wishing you good times ahead in retirement!
I Still Do!!!! is not listed
We need a Bo retirement party for all of us that love and adore him!
Thanks! Not sure How I missed that one. The Band is Retired, not Bo Schronce.
They used to play at the NC Tax Collectors Assn and NC Assn of Assessing Officers conferences. What fun we all had!!! My favorite floor show was always The Village People. I’m surprised there wasn’t a clip of it in your “Remembering the Shakers” video. The Fantastic Shakers will surely be missed in the beach music world. Best wishes to all of them.
Bo was/is the Best there ever was in Carolina Beach Music! Without a lot of detail(Cannot remember the years, as
my memory is fleeting), but my favorites of Bo was The Ramada Inn Hickory NC, Shelby NC on the 4th, & Dallas NC on Labor Day—–& Holiday Inn @ North Myrtle Beach! God Bless Bo & The Shakers (OLD & New)!
I remember when my Daddy sang with the Fantastic Shakers and I was able to spend a week with them at North Myrtle Beach. As a kid, I was able to sit in the back of the club each night, got never ending ice cream sundaes / chicken / coke, and went to the beach everyday with so many people. I still keep in touch with some of those people today that I met when I was a child. Although Daddy is gone now, I listen to the Fantastic Shakers, Catalinas, and other bands just to be reminded of that time and that feeling.
Well deserved retirement but I will truly miss the Fantastic Shakers! Their beach music was distinct and their sound unique.
They lifted you up and you had no choice but to wear a big grin just watching.
Happy and Beautiful Music forever in my memory. Shag won’t be quite the same.
Neither will I!
My cousin is in Myrtle Beach her. Name is Grace. She gave Bo a hat..”Hamlet an all american city”.. Many years ago…she still loves The Shakers. She listens to 94.9 every day. He sent out song Miss Grace to her one time.
“Blacksmith” was the name of the band before it change to “The Fantastic Shakers” I dont know if that is in the book that was written but if you were from Lincolnton, NC and went to Hickory, NC for a night out and if: Bo and the band was in town you was there. Behind that talented voice he had the best musicians with their multi talents with additional singing ranges. There were different members added to the group other members leaving for whatever reasons but to all that made the Fantastic Shakers, THANK YOU!!
